Is EFT a new religion?
Certainly not!
No EFT practitioner will ever ask you to change your religious beliefs, whatever they are. You don't need either to "believe in EFT" to try it and enjoy its possibilities. Just look up for all previous "sceptics" (me included!) who became interested in EFT after having experienced it, sometimes against their better judgement at the time! Suzie and Lynda's stories are good exemples.
Like yoga or any holistic approach, EFT aims at bringing peace at all levels, body, mind and spirit. But it is only supporting you in your own values, not imposing any new value on you.
One person asked me once if she was "doing things right for EFT". My answer was that nothing is good or bad "for EFT". EFT is only a tool. So her question was a bit like asking : "is it better for the hammer if I put the nail here or there?" The hammer doesn't care. If what you're doing while using EFT (or anything else) brings you relief, then it's good for you.If "it doesn't work", then maybe you can improve the way you use it. (see more FAQs for a few tips).
Just looking at the different languages in which the original manual has been translated, from Gujarati to Arabic, including most of the European languages and more, we can guess that people with very different cultures and religions use it, supposedly successfully, since they felt the need to use it in their own language, to share it with people of their own culture and religion.
And as always, the best way for you to know for sure it to try it!
